Glacier Park Weekend

June 4th, 2009

We went up to Glacier Park this past weekend and had a blast.  Jenny, Bonnie, Aunt Barbara, Cara, Colton and Chris all biked the Going to the Sun Highway on saturday and had an amazing time.  We stayed in a cabin on Lake McDonald staurday night.  We were going to play games all night but it seemed everyone forgot to bring them, cough cough.

Sunday we had breakfast and started our adventures.  Bonnies friend came up and biked the highway again with Bonnie while Jenny and I kayaked on Lake McDonald.  It was a great time, we were out there for at least 3 hours.  We ended up getting a little too much sun though, it was a painful monday, tuesday, wednesday, heck… it still hurts.  All and all, it was an amazing weekend and I am glad to have met more of the family.  Can’t wait till the next trip.

This weekend we are going camping up the Thompson River and attempting to catch a fish or two.  Wish us luck!

Till next time, have fun!

Washington Coast Vacation 5/7 – 5/13

May 17th, 2009

It has been a few days since we have returned from vacation but we have been quite busy catching up on everything and going through 1265 pictures has been quite the task.  The image gallery below has been narrowed to 295 pictures to save you some time of looking through them all :)

To quickly summarize our vacation, it was a blast!  Now to give you the detailed description of each day!

Day 1

Day 1 starts Thursday may 7th.  The day starts in Spokane as we drove from Missoula to Spokane the night before to make the drive a  little shorter.  We left Spokane quite early in the morning so we didn’t have to rush to Puyallup as we had an appointment there at 3:00.  We made the drive to Puyallup in pretty good time only stopping to do one Viewpoint attraction.  This was when we first hit the Columbia River. We took some fun pictures and they turned out pretty good.  One thing I want to point out is that over the ENTIRE vacation, we didn’t have anyone take any photos for us, we took them all ourselves with the help of a little tripod.

Once we arrived in Puyallup, We ate lunch, shopped around a little bit and then went and had Jenny’s nails done why we were waiting for 3 to come around for Jenny’s pampering appointment.  Three finally arrived and Jenny started with her back facial, then moved onto her facial, then had her hair done and highlighted.  All in all it was about a 4 hour adventure, pretty sure she enjoyed it though!  We then went out to dinner with my aunt, uncle and cousin then called it a night.

Day 2

We woke up about 8am to get the day started.  We went to the grocery store to pack up on supplies and headed out of town.  We were destined for Kalaloch Lodge in the Olympic National Forest right on the coast.  Once we arrive we checked into our place, walked a little bit on the beach and then headed to a pretty famous beach called Ruby Beach.  We had tons of fun walking the beaches and exploring the coast line.  We found some shells, cool rocks to play on and went places most didn’t due to the complexity of getting there!  You can see some of these great pictures in the album!

After Ruby beach, we headed back to Kalaloch and walked more on the beach, gathered some firewood (drift wood) took some amazing sunset photos, some funky photos of us having a great time such as jumping in the air and capturing the moment on camera.  We had a couple bottles of wine, some hotdogs and smores, what else could you ask for?  At about 12:30 we decided to pack it up and head back to the room!

Day 3

This was Jenny’s BIRTHDAY!  Happy Birthday Jenny!  We started by getting up pretty early and headed out to the beach for a nice hike looking for little treasures such as sand dollars and anything else we could find. It was an absolute beautiful morning!  We went to the lodge for some breakfast and coffee and then hit the road to Forks and La Push.  It was neat being at the places due to the popular book series Twilight!  Everyone seems to be in a frenzy over these books.  We went to a couple of beaches in La Push, one requiring a 3/4 of a mile hike which was quite fun.  We wrote in the sand, jenny did some “aerobics” and overall just enjoyed the beach!

We headed back to Kalaloch and hit up the beach once again.  We gathered more driftwood for the fire to be and took some even more amazing sunset pictures and pictures of us doing fun things and cool poses with the sunsets in the background.  The evening was PERFECT!  Once again having hotdogs for dinner (how romantic) Chocolate covered strawberries and smores for desert and wine as our beverage.  We both fell alseep on the beach and woke up around 1 am so we packed up and headed back to our room!  A great day this was, full of activities and memories!

Day 4

We slept in a bit this day (9am).  We headed to the beach for a bit and then packed up the room to head towards Port Angeles where we were catching the ferry at 2pm to head to Victoria BC.  We made it pretty much just in time so we grabbed out back packs and jumped on the ferry, ok we walked on but you know what I mean.  We got to use our passports for the first time too, so that was pretty exciting!

The ferry ride was quite fun.  We didn’t see any cool creatures like whales or anything but it was still fun.  Once we arrived in Victoria, we walked around the harbor and looked at all the little vendors that had stuff for sale.  We then went and checked into our hotel room and headed out in search of dinner.  We asked a few people about a good steak house and we ended up at The Keg!  It was amazing!  I had steak and king crab and Jenny had Prime Rib and king crab.  Absolutely amazing!  We then went to this Irish Bar and sat down at the bar and to our surprise, I knew the bartender.  He used to play basketball for the Griz!  Small world huh?  After this we headed back and called it a night, busy day ahead tomorrow.

Day 5

Day five is a Monday if you lost count.  We checked out of the hotel and with our backpacks on our backs, we hit the town in search of breakfast and a way to get to the Butchart Gardens.  It just so happens we were successful in both objectives.  We got onto a tour bus that toured Victoria on the way to the Butchart Gardens, gave us 2 hours to view the gardens and then drove us back to home port where we were to catch the ferry at 4 that afternoon.

The gardens were absolutely beautiful.  They are hard to describe to people that have never been and pictures don’t do justice for what you can actually see.  I’m not saying the pictures are not cool but with your own eyes is WAY better.  We took tons of pictures at the gardens as you can see in the album.  The only downside to this time of year was the rose gardens were not in bloom, but to be honest, that is my least favorite so no big loss.

Once we were done with the gardens and made it back to Victoria, we go onto the ferry and headed back to the USA!  We ate at a really crappy restaurant called the Crab House where we were surrounded by cross dressers which made it an even more interesting dinner to say the least.  We then drove back to Kalaloch and grabbed a camp site on the ocean, setup camp and went to bed as it was a long and exhausting day.

Day 6

We woke up pretty early due to some fighter jets practicing overhead, they were doing some crazy flying which made their engines really really loud.  We took down camp and went and had breakfast at the lodge.  We went to a quite a few different beaches and took lots of pictures of waves crashing over rocks and such.  It was a long full day and was a good one for our last at the beach.  We grabbed a new camp site in a better spot now that we had daylight to see what we were doing, drank some wine, cooked some hotdogs and smores and then hit the tent for the last night.

Day 7

We woke up and took down camp and packed up the jeep for our long haul back to Missoula.  We had 652 miles to make it back home.  We drove straight through, only stopping for gas.  We made it home about 7pm which was nice cause we had some time to relax before going to bed.  I know you may be asking all you did was sit and drive all day, how wore out could you be?  Trust me, driving for over 10 hours is pretty exhausting.

That was our trip in a nutshell!  We had tons of fun and took many great photos as you can see quite a few in the following album.  Thanks for reading and looking at our pictures!  Feel free to leave any comments and/or ask us any questions, we would love to answer them!

Jenny’s day of pampering

May 7th, 2009

We drove from Spokane to puyallup, had some fun on the way, shopped at the outlet malls and now jenny is getting la pampered. She had a two hour facial and back facial and is now getting her hair done. First day of vacation has been wonderful!

Bear hunting we will go…

April 25th, 2009

Tonight when Jenny gets off work, We are headed to Thompson Falls on a bear and turkey hunt.  We are both really excited.  I think Jenny is most excited about watching me shoot my first bear, which is really cool.  It makes me feel good that she gets so excited over something I am doing :)   I am hoping to return the favor and help her get a big turkey.  We willhave some great photos and videos of our success stories come Sunday night, at least we hope :)

Have a good weekend!

Easter Weekend

April 19th, 2009

I know this is a week behind but it was a busy week :)   Last weekend we had a ton of fun at the Haun’s Getaway, well, it’s a getaway for Jenny and I.  We headed up late Friday night after Jenny got off work.  Saturday morning Jenny and Bonnie went to TFalls for a 5K run.  They didn’t do to bad, finished like 11th and 12th ;)

Dean and I stuck around back home and shot gophers and burnt some fields of grass.  That was a blast, I love burning.  That day the 4 of us shot gophers, went fishing and had a lot of fun.  We colores easter eggs later that night which was an absolute blast, I hadn’t done that in quite some time.  Brought back great memories.  The next morning we woke up and went on our easter egg hunt, I thought for sure I was going to find more than Jenny, but I was wrong, she must have known all the secrets cause she did pretty good.  The rest of the day was full of gopher hunting, fishing, hiking, great food and great company.  We went horning hunting and Jenny found a nice whitetail shed and a couple old elk sheds, the rest of us were skunked.

Here are quite a few photos from the weekend and we hope you all enjoy reading this site.  Keep in touch!

Another exciting weekend down, another to come!

April 9th, 2009

I know this is kinda late but it has been a busy week! Last Saturday, Jenny and I went up to Quinn’s hotsprings after she got off work and had dinner. it was a lot of fun. We were going to soak but decided to head to the parents house instead and hold off on the soaking till the return trip home. Once we got to Dean and Bonnie’s house, we chatted for a while and played a game. That was such a good time.

Sunday morning we woke up to a great breakfast, giving us the energy needed for the days worth of exciting activities. We shot gophers for awhile, got the boat ready to go, went four wheeling, all that before the afternoon. Once we got the boat in the water we went to the “fishin hole” and caught a few fish. We then went to another area and looked for some horns but did not fine any, where the heck are they hiding? The animals must have been pretty sneaky this year in the dropping places.

On the way back to the house we fished another area and caught quite a few, we found this one little hole they were all holding up in. Jenny did catch the most fish on Sunday, she was quite excited about that :)

Once we returned to the house, we built a fire and had an amazing salmon and halibut dinner. It was an absolute gorgeous day and was wonderful sitting out along the river. We didn’t want to leave but the time had to come. One the way home we stopped off at Quinn’s and soaked for a little while before heading back to Missoula.

This past week we had some more fun adventures. We went driving around looking for fun places to play. Most areas are still covered in snow not allowing us to drive in very far which is disappointing but we made do. We found this one area along the blackfoot river where we hiked for an hour and then shot a few rounds with the 9MM. It was a very fun and relaxing drive. Here are some photos from the weekend. We are heading up to TFalls again tomorrow for the weekend for more of the fun activities!

It’s official, Cancun… Here we come!

March 27th, 2009

We officially booked our trip to Cancun, Mexico this morning.  We are leaving the morning of May 7th and returning the evening of May 11th.  We are staying at the Royal Solaris which seemed to be a pretty sweet place.  We got an all inclusive package meaning all food and drinks are included in the trip, that will be nice not to have to pay for anything while we are down there, at least when it comes to those items!

Here are some pictures of the resort where we are staying!  Whoo Hoo, we are so excited!

Quinn’s, Gophers, Pike and Horns

March 25th, 2009

This past weekend Jenny and I had an absolutely wonderful time.  We started the weekend off on Saturday at 5 when Jenny got off work.  We headed up to Quinn’s Hot springs for an evening of Pool, Food, Drinks and Swimming.  It was such a fun time.  We even played with a beach ball for at least an hour with every person in the pool.  After Quinn’s we headed up to Thompson Falls and stayed at Dean and Bonnie’s place.

We woke up the next day with a wonderful breakfast, yummy!  We looked at some old photos of Jenny when she was a little youngin’, looked at some hunting photos and watched some videos.  We then tried our luck at gopher hunting which lasted all of 15 minutes.  We each got one shot at a gopher and then they all seemed to disappear, they are still too smart.  Jenny, Bonnie, Nani and I then packed up and went up the Thompson River on a horn hunting adventure, which turned out to be just a really fun and beautiful hike.   We didn’t find any horns, even though we all thought for sure we were going to find hundreds.

When we returned to the house, we ate a wonderful dinner that Bonnie had prepared in a crock pot.  It was also very yummy, we were spoiled with the food this weekend. After dinner we headed to the river for some pike fishing.  I had never caught a pike before so it was quite enjoyable.  I caught the first one, then Dean caught a nice one followed by Bonnie catching one.  I ended up with 3, Dean 2, Bonnie 1 and Jenny got skunked, poor girl.  I think she was doing that on purpose to make me look good ;)   That reminds me, she owes me a dollar, we bet on who would catch the biggest fish.

The trip home was not exciting as we hate leaving such fun activities to go back to the real world.  The one exciting thing we did do on the trip home was trying to figure out what we wanted to do with our lives and what we wanted to do for work.  We both decided that winning the lotto sounded pretty good.  That is about it for that adventure, pictures below.  Until next time, enjoy!

Blackfoot River Adventure

March 19th, 2009

Yesterday Jenny and I took an adventure up the blackfoot river, not on the river but driving along side of it :)   The road was a little sketchy in places but for the most part was not too difficult.  There was still a ton of snow which kinda surprised me by looking around town here and not seeing much at all, even in the higher elevations.  We started the trip off by buying some sandwiches, chips and some drinks.  We headed up and had a great time, stopping along the way watching an abundance of animals.  We went as far as Whitaker Bridge where we took some pictures and hung out for a bit.  On the way back we spotted an eagle and Jenny was taking some pictures of it and looked down a bit on the hillside where she spotted a herd of elk.  There were elk everywhere!  Very exciting.  We took tons of pictures of the elk and the eagles that kept flying by.

Here are some pictures we took on this awesome first spring adventure!
